Altinna, a smaller country surrounded by five larger ones all chomping at the bit to take some or all of it for themselves, is protected by a strong magical boundary that cannot be crossed without permission while there is a sitting Queen on the throne. Lately, that boundary has been weakening from continual magical attacks over thousands of years. A queen has not arisen since the boundary was first made who is strong enough to repair it, and all recent attempts by the current queen have been stopgap measures at best.
Knowing it’s only a matter of time before the barrier is too weak to keep them out, armies have been gathering at the borders of Altinna. For the first time in their long history, they must make alliances or risk being wiped out.
Against this backdrop, Maerilee, the Princess of Altinna and heiress to Queen Kimalissa, is still hopeful of finding her One, as her mother did, and her mother before her, and her mother before her, into perpetuity. So far, she has been unsuccessful. Though only in her twenties with hundreds of years ahead of her, as her mother keeps reminding her, Maerilee has this sense within her that it is imperative she find her One now, so her powers will manifest, and she can help her mother strengthen the barrier. What isn’t known at this time, however, is that Maerilee is a special subtype of fae unseen these many thousands of years – since the First Fae who created the kingdoms and the Altinnaen Queen who first raised the barrier. Maerilee actually has FOUR “Ones,” and will need all of them to protect her kingdom from the coming storm.
